First of all, thank you to everyone who commented and subscribed following my latest post on being ashamed to be a Canadian. It’s good to know that so many people shared my thoughts, and I’d like to follow up on that post.
One of the most horrifying, for me, acts during this carnival of hatred was the Canadian woman who gave the Nazi salute and who then said -
“The final solution is coming your way, the final solution.
You know what the final solution is?”
The woman’s name is Mai Abdullhadi, and here’s where it gets strange. She is - sorry, was - the owner of two Second Cup Café coffee franchises, and of all places, they were at the Jewish General Hospital in Québec city, the province’s capital. These were, I kid you not, kosher outlets and they belonged to a virulent anti-semite. You can’t make this stuff up.
To its credit, the franchisor, Second Cup, immediately terminated her contract, so if you’re around a Second Cup franchise, do go in and have a cuppa to show them your support for their integrity.
This wasn’t the end of the rightful punishment this bigot received. Abdullhabi’s Christmas present was to be arrested in late December by the Québec police. This news was not well disseminated as most of the reporting was in French language newspapers in Québec and not picked up by Google - here is a translation of what I found after a French language search - et oui, je parle la belle langue!
Le Journal de Quebec, however, reported that “reliable sources” have indicated that the SPVM had arrested the former coffee shop owner and that she could be facing criminal charges of incitement to hate and death threats.
Here she is on the street, yelling out her hatred. This is beyond disgusting.
I have no doubt that Abdullhabi will be convicted on these charges. Here’s what the Canadian federal law says:
Public incitement of hatred
319 (1) Every one who, by communicating statements in any public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.Wilful promotion of hatred
(2) Every one who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.[1]
She might get away with 319 (1), since proving that her words were “likely to lead to a breach of the peace”, would be a challenge, but there’s no way she’s getting by on 319 (2).
Now you might not like Canada’s hate laws and see them as a restriction of free speech, which they are, and there is much about them that I’m not a fan of, but if there was ever a time for these laws to be utilized, this is it.
These charges will likely take a great deal of time to work through the system, unless Abdullhabi pleads out. That would be the smart move - she’s not going to be able to deny that video, or the police who witnessed her speaking these words.
My personal hope is that she won’t plead out, that she’ll try to justify her actions and that the entire world can see just who and what these people are in our midst… and why they need to be removed from Canada.
